Horna ousts Robredo in Sweden

Bastad, Sweden (Sports Network) - Peru's Luis Horna upended top-seeded and defending champion Tommy Robredo in Monday's first-round action at the clay- court Swedish Open.

Horna humbled the Spanish Robredo in 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 fashion at Bastad Tennis Stadium. Robredo, seeded second here last year, bested Russian star Nikolay Davydenko, the top seed in 2006, in last season's Bastad finale.

Another Day-1 upset came when quality Belgian Olivier Rochus drove out third- seeded Finn Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Carlos Moya avoided the upset bug by leveling his fellow Spaniard Ivan Navarro Pastor 6-2, 6-4, while fifth-seeded Italian Filippo Volandri advanced by overcoming his countryman Federico Luzzi 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. The former world No. 1 Moya titled here back in 2002.

In other play, Spaniard Nicolas Almagro got past Swedish wild card Filip Prpic 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, Czech Lukas Dlouhy downed Swedish wild card Michael Ryderstedt 6-1, 6-4 and Chilean Nicolas Massu overcame Russian Evgeny Korolev 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
